KCCA JOINS THOUSANDS IN THE 5TH UGANDA MUSLIM CHARITY RUN TO SUPPORT ORPHANS

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) team, led by the Executive Director, Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, joined thousands of Ugandans on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Cricket Oval, Lugogo, to participate in the 5th Annual Uganda Muslim Charity Run.

The charity event, which attracted both corporate and individual participants, was organized to raise awareness and mobilize funds to roof the first block of the Shukran Babies’ Home in Luweero District. The facility is being established as a safe haven for abandoned and vulnerable children.

Speaking after completing the run, Hajjat Buzeki emphasized the importance of compassion and community responsibility.

“We are honored to be part of this noble cause. In Islam, a person who lends a hand to an orphan earns a special place of honor before Allah. Supporting this initiative is not just charity, it is a duty of the heart,” Buzeki said.

She further underscored KCCA’s commitment to social responsibility beyond its mandate of service delivery.

“At KCCA, we believe that building a great city goes beyond infrastructure. It is also about building humanity, caring for the most vulnerable among us, especially children who need love, safety, and hope,” Buzeki added.

Buzeki used the event to call for continued support to the cause and invited the public to the upcoming city celebration.

“Let us continue running together, not just on the track, but in our daily lives running towards compassion, kindness, and shared responsibility for the next generation. I also invite everyone to join us at the Kampala City Festival on October 5 at Kololo Independence Grounds, where we shall celebrate our city and its people in unity,” she urged.

The Deputy Executive Director, Benon Kigenyi, also joined the team in the run, which featured both 5km and 10km races to accommodate participants of different fitness levels.

According to event organizer Muslim Kiwanuka, the run has become an important platform for uniting communities around compassion and social action.

“Our goal this year is to raise enough funds to roof the first block of the Shukran Babies’ Home,” Kiwanuka said.

“This home will provide safety, care, and dignity for children who have nowhere else to turn.”

The Uganda Muslim Charity Run has, over the years, mobilized thousands of people to give back to society thorugh sports and fitness.
