KCCA PUSHES CONTRACTORS TO FAST-TRACK ROAD WORKS UNDER KCRRP

PUBLISHED — 11th, September 2025

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, modern, and high-quality road infrastructure, tasking contractors to fast-track works under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP).

On September 11, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki met with managers of China Railway 18th Group, led by Dong Limin, at City Hall to review progress on ongoing projects and set clear timelines for completion.

Buzeki placed emphasis on pedestrian safety, urging the contractor to put more effort into developing walkways, particularly on Fifth Street, and to ensure better dust control and debris management.

“As KCCA, our priority is the safety and well-being of city residents. We expect contractors to not only build roads but also create safer spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Dust suppression and proper site clearance are non-negotiable,” Buzeki said.

During the meeting, the contractor reported progress on key roads in the Industrial Area including 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Streets and committed to completing 8th Street, Sir Apollo Kaggwa, and Muzito Road by December 2025.

Limin acknowledged challenges on Salaama Road, caused by ongoing National Water pipe relocations, but assured KCCA that the company has now resorted to night works to accelerate progress. He pledged the contractor’s full commitment to delivering on time.

“We are committed to working closely with KCCA to deliver quality roads on schedule. We are doubling efforts on Salaama and Kyebando. Safety and quality remain at the center of our work,” said Limin.

The Authority continues to provide close technical supervision through its Engineering Directorate, led by Eng. Justus Akankwasa, to ensure that contractors adhere to KCCA’s strict quality standards.

Akankwasa underscored that the KCRRP is one of the most transformative infrastructure programs in the city’s history, aimed at decongesting Kampala, improving drainage systems, and enhancing pedestrian and traffic safety.

“Every road completed under KCRRP is a milestone in building a city that works for its people. KCCA will not relent in ensuring that contractors deliver results,” Akankwasa said.

With over 40 roads under rehabilitation across the city, KCCA is leading the charge in modernizing Kampala’s infrastructure.
