UGANDA POLICE RALLY BEHIND 2025 KAMPALA CITY FESTIVAL
PUBLISHED — 15th, September 2025Excitement is building for the Kampala City Festival as Uganda’s security agencies and leading sponsors pledged full support ahead of the October 5, 2025 celebrations at Kololo Independence Grounds.
At a planning meeting held at City Hall on Monday, KCCA Deputy Executive Director, Benon Kigenyi, met with the Director of Operations in the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa, together with officials from the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF), Internal Secuirty Organization (ISO), and other security organs.
Kigenyi emphasized that the festival is a national event, not just for Kampala.
“This event is an opportunity for all Ugandans to celebrate our culture, innovation, and sustainability. We must organize it better each year, ensuring it is safe and inclusive for everyone,” Kigenyi said.
He noted that the festival will have a ripple effect on commerce, tourism, and community unity, making security a top priority. He also highlighted KCCA’s efforts to cater to Kampala’s youthful energy while being sensitive to political, religious, and academic dynamics.
In his remarks, AIGP Mwesigwa commended KCCA’s preparations and assured the Authority of maximum security support. He confirmed that the Counter Terrorism Police, traffic officers, and other specialized units will be deployed to ensure smooth operations before and during the event.
“The Uganda Police Force is fully committed to working with KCCA to ensure a safe, successful, and memorable festival for all Ugandans,” Mwesigwa said

Festival Organizing Committee chairperson, Sheila Birungi, commended the police and the growing list of sponsors supporting the event.
These include Centenary Bank, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, China Railway 18th Bureau Group, Psalms Food Industries Ltd, NBS TV, Record Radio, and BBS TV. She urged more companies to come on board and be part of the country’s biggest cultural celebration.
The 2025 Kampala City Festival will feature multiple attractions including a children’s space at Kololo, a medical camp, a Halal Village, a Christian fellowship point at Hotel Africana, as well as pre-event activities such as tree planting, blood donation drives, and community clean-ups.
KCCA officials said the festival is designed to be inclusive, highlighting Kampala’s youthful energy while embracing political, religious, and academic diversity.
