KCCA, MTN PARTNER TO EMPOWER YOUTH WITH DIGITAL SKILLS

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has partnered with MTN Uganda to boost digital skills training for young people through the Kabalagala Youth One Stop Centre.

The collaboration was officially launched June 2 as MTN handed over a consignment of digital equipment, installed its Skills Academy on 15 computers at the centre, and committed to providing free internet connectivity for a full year.

The initiative is part of MTN’s annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” campaign, which promotes employee volunteerism and community development.

This year’s campaign is running under the theme “Connecting from the roots: digital tools for connected communities,” with a focus on empowering women, youth, and underserved communities.

KCCA Deputy Director for Gender and Community Services, Daniel Kaseregenyi, welcomed the support, describing the partnership as a major boost to the city authority’s ongoing efforts to upskill and mentor the youth.

“We thank MTN for this timely support. KCCA has invested in providing free services to young people training them in various life and vocational skills. This equipment will enhance our ability to deliver even better services to the community,” Kaseregenyi said.

MTN’s donation includes two Canon R6 Mark II camera bodies, four RF lenses, a studio lighting setup, a backdrop system, two Blackmagic Pocket 4K video cameras, stabilizers, video lights, and editing computers. The MTN Skills Academy installed at the centre will give trainees access to digital courses and e-learning resources.

Enid Edroma, General Manager Corporate Services at MTN Uganda, praised KCCA’s commitment to youth development and emphasized the importance of digital empowerment in today’s economy.

“For 18 years, Y’ello Care has been about giving back to the communities we live and work in. Youth empowerment is at the heart of this year’s campaign. We’re proud to partner with KCCA to make a real difference,” Edroma said.

The event also featured a tree-planting drive, with 100 trees planted at the centre as part of a 500-tree donation from Roofings Uganda, further reinforcing the campaign’s environmental focus.

The Kabalagala Youth One Stop Centre offers free access to vocational training, mentorship, and digital tools for young people in Kampala, including refugees and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The partnership between KCCA and MTN is expected to expand access to digital learning and inspire innovation among Uganda’s growing youth population.
