SSERUNJOGI SWORN IN AS KAWEMPE DIVISION MAYOR
PUBLISHED — 25th, May 2026Emmanuel Sserunjogi on Monday took oath for a third term as mayor of Kawempe Division, promising improved service delivery and closer collaboration with technical leaders.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Kawempe Division headquarters, also ushered in newly elected division councilors for the 2026–2031 term. The event, conducted under Ebola prevention standard operating procedures with limited attendance, reflected both celebration and caution as local leaders formally assumed office.
Sserunjogi was sworn in at 12:10 p.m., surrounded by family, political supporters and technical staff. His wife, Margaret Sserunjogi, stood beside him as he took the oath, marking the beginning of another five-year mandate in one of Kampala’s most densely populated divisions.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Chief Magistrate congratulated residents for participating in the democratic process and urged the new leaders to uphold constitutional principles and the rule of law.
Moments later, the Kawempe Division Town Clerk, Geoffrey Rwakabale, handed Sserunjogi the instruments of power, including the Constitution of Uganda, the KCCA Act Cap 195, the Local Government Act and the Rules of Procedure for KCCA councils. The mayor also received ceremonial robes symbolizing the authority of office.
For Sserunjogi, the ceremony carried the weight of both continuity and expectation. Having secured a third term, he acknowledged the trust voters had once again placed in him and pledged to exceed the performance of his previous administrations.
“We are looking forward to translating the love you showed us into service delivery,” Sserunjogi said after taking oath. “I am grateful to the people of Kawempe for voting for us once again.”
Rwakabale described Sserunjogi’s re-election as a clear vote of confidence from residents and pledged full support from the technical wing of the division administration.
“Your election is a testimony of the confidence the people of Kawempe have in you and your service,” Rwakabale said.
The town clerk also extended the same assurance to the newly elected councilors, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between political and technical leaders in addressing service delivery gaps.
“As technical staff, we shall support you. We know you have a social contract with the people, and we shall support you to deliver it,” Rwakabale said.
He pointed to solid waste management and drainage infrastructure as some of the immediate challenges facing the division, adding that the administration would work to ensure residents receive the services they deserve.
