KCCA ED REPRESENTS KAMPALA AT BRICS CAPITALS PARLIAMENTARY MOVEMENT SIGNING IN MOSCOW

Today, 27th October 2025 a delegation from Kampala Capital City Authority led by Executive Director, Sharifah Buzeki joined other BRICS capitals for the ceremonial signing of the Joint Statement of the Parliamentary Movement of the BRICS Capitals at the Moscow Parliamentary Centre in Russia. 

The Parliamentary Movement of the BRICS Capitals is being established as a new channel for direct interaction between major cities facing similar challenges and tasks ranging from infrastructure development, digital urban governance, and climate conscious sustainable development.  This formation is designed to complement traditional diplomacy, improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, and strengthen partnerships at the municipal level.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chairpersons of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev and Inna Svyatenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, Sergey Cheremin, the Uganda Ambassador to Rusia, Moses Kizige as well as heads of diplomatic mission Officials representing the authorities of Minsk (Belarus), Brasilia (Brazil), Havana (Cuba), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Tehran (Iran), Tshwane (South Africa).

The Chairman of the Moscow City Duma, Aleksey Shaposhnikov, underlined the significance of the new format, noting that the initiative opens a new chapter in the international cooperation of major cities. He added that many tasks lie ahead, and the partnership among representative bodies of key cities will create a solid foundation for a world order based on equality, trust, and mutual respect.

Buzeki extended Kampala and Uganda's commitment to the new formation. She noted that this was an opportunity for sharing mutually beneficial best practices and noted that a city " alone can go fast" but together " we can reach so far."

The delegation continues to the Russian city of St Petersburg, where they will join other BRICS nations at the BRICS Municipal Forum from 28th to 31st October 2025.
